Current global
society faces challenges, namely, the threats posed by insecurity and
terrorism, the complexities of global migration, and the rising impacts of
climate change. These complex interplay
causes crises that require collaborative efforts to mitigate their adverse
consequences and foster sustainable and equitable solutions. The implication of
this is the need for greater partnerships, cooperation and regional integration. These have become increasingly more desirable
in combatting the identified challenges.
It is in this respect that the Protestant University of Rwanda in
collaboration with the European Union designed a module on European Studies
leading to micro-sociological facts on regional integration.
The aim of the
module is to promote learning outcomes which draws from the strengths and opportunities
leading to the appreciation of the benefits of the long relationship and
partnership as well as that of regional integration. These will be relevant for both EU and African
scholars.
The historical background presented therefore requires students and young scholars to have a platform for discussions on the EU-African relations, collaboration and learning opportunities especially on some of the successes stories of the European Union in regional integration that Africans can build upon.
The objectives
of the module is:
·
To familiarize participants
with EU studies and aspects of regional integration;
·
To assist participants learning
from micro-sociological facts on EU integration (looking at challenges and
possible opportunities that could be a learning ground for regional integration
and sustainability);
·
To learn from EU and African
cooperation, and security strategies;
· To discover impact or benefits of both EU and African regional integration.
The module will be delivered through a blended mode. This approach combines both in-person and online learning methods to provide a flexible and comprehensive learning experience. Additionally, the module will be complemented by seminars and workshops hosted at the Protestant University of Rwanda, as well as an international conference that the university will organize, further enriching the academic environment and fostering global collaboration.
The first cohort will consist of 25 candidates. The first seminar is scheduled to take place in January 2025 at the University, with the exact starting date to be communicated to the selected candidates. All those interested should send a statement of interest to the email of [email protected] on or before the 5th of January 2025.
