The Protestant University of Rwanda (PUR) invites applications for the position of a full-time Lecturer in Architecture. Job Summary

The Lecturer in Architecture is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, conducting research, supervising student projects, and contributing to the academic development of the architecture program. The role involves guiding students in architectural design, theory, history, sustainability, and professional practice.

 

Key Responsibilities

1.     Teaching, Learning, and Advising

  1.   .     Deliver lectures, tutorials, and studio-based instruction in architecture at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.

    b.     Develop course materials, assessment tools, and learning outcomes in alignment with curriculum standards.

    c.     Supervise and assess student work, including design projects, dissertations, and field studies.

    d.     Support students for internship placement and plan their visits.

    e.     Receive students’ claims and ensure that they are handled on time.

    f.      Incorporate innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance student engagement and learning.

    g.     Collaborate with other faculties, and departments at PUR wherever needed to enhance teaching, learning and assessment strategies with quality standards.

    h.     Advise and mentor students on academic and career matters.

2.      Research and Scholarly Activity

  1. Conduct original research in architecture or a related field and publish in peer-reviewed journals or design platforms.
  2. Participate in academic conferences, exhibitions, and symposia.
  3. Seek research funding and collaborate on interdisciplinary projects. 

3.     Curriculum, Program Development, and Community Engagement

  1. Contribute to the review and development of architecture programs and curricula or other related programs.
  2. Ensure alignment with industry standards, accreditation bodies, and emerging trends in architectural practice.
  3. Advise PUR on marketing strategies and take part in activities that can increase students’ enrollment rates.
  1. Participate in creation of partnerships that are important to increase PUR visibility and impact.
  2. Take part in spiritual and social activities related to community life at PUR.

4.     Requirements for the position

Qualifications and Experience:

a.      Master’s or PhD degree in Architecture.

b.      Professional registration with a recognized architectural body.

c.      Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level.

d.      Proven track record of design or research output in architecture.

e.      Experience in architectural practice is highly desirable.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  1. Strong studio and design pedagogy.
  2. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  3. Ability to use architectural software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, Adobe Suite).
  4. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  5. Commitment to student-centred learning and academic excellence.
